Britweek LA:Christopher Guy presented the 2015 BritWeek Design Icon Award to British designer Thomas Heatherwick

Luxury furnishings designer and creator Christopher Guy Harrison presented the 2015 BritWeek Design Icon Award to innovative British designer Thomas Heatherwick at Christopher Guy’s West Hollywood showroom last Wednesday April 29, 2015. 

Olympic Cauldron for the 2012 London Olympic Games


Heatherwick's work has been honored (CBE) by Her Majesty the Queen, and whose designs include the Olympic Cauldron for the 2012 London Olympic Games. 

Re-designed after 50 years the London's iconic "Routemaster" 

Thomas re-designed London's iconic "Routemaster" red double-decker bus, and has been called a "Leonardo da Vinci of our times" by his early patron, famed British designer Sir Terence Conran.

Heatherwick, was trained at London's Royal College of Art and is the founder of London’s Heatherwick Studio.











Heatherwick’s designs have also included: the curling pedestrian bridge in Paddington, London, a striking store front in New York for French company Longchamp and a prize-winning UK Pavilion at the 2010 Shanghai World Expo.

The award ceremony was the signature event of this year’s BritWeek – an annual festival highlighting creative links between Britain and California (now also including a satellite festival in Miami, Florida).
Previous recipients of the Design Icon Award were London-based interior designer Nina Campbell, Jaguar Design Director Ian Callum and Royal Milliner Philip Treacy.

Hammer Museum in Westwood features British designer Thomas Heatherwick in a new free exhibit  'Provocations" until May 24th 2015.

Provocations: The Architecture and Design of Heatherwick Studio examines the astonishing range of the studio’s practice by focusing on the design concepts behind small products such as the handbag designed for Longchamp and his rotation-molded "Spun" chairs, as well as large public and private architectural projects in the U.K.,U.S., Abu Dhabi, South Africa, Singaporeand China. 
These include the U.K. Pavilion, known as the Seed Cathedral at the 2010 World Expoa new distillery for Bombay Sapphire gin; a Learning Hub for Nanyang Technological University in Singapore; and a contemporary art museum created within a historic grain silo.  Heatherwick Studio is recognized for its inventive approach to design, combining novel engineering with new materials and innovative technology to create unusual, often sculptural, building forms.
The Hammer exhibit is organized by the Nasher Sculpture Center, Dallas, Provocations is curated by Brooke Hodge, deputy director of Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum. The presentation is overseen by curator Aram Moshayedi.
